Fasting may help the immune system rebuild itself

Use of fasting to increase lifespan, & other health benefits, has been controversial since the AJ Carlson study in ‎1946. More recently, a study at the University of Southern California has cast new light on the possible health benefits of fasting.

Dual-carbon battery claims longer service life, faster charging, more useable capacity & improved safety over Li-ion

Both electrodes in a dual-carbon battery are — carbon. During charging, a dual carbon battery doesn't heat up. Lithium ion batteries heat up during charging, limiting the charge rate. With no substantial increase in temperature, dual-carbon batteries can be charged 20 times faster.

Heat produced by an EV battery-pack requires a cooling system. Cool-running dual-carbon battery-pack holds the promise of little or no requirement for thermal management, with resultant reduced cost, complexity & size.

Thermal stability also improves safety & service life.

How far the battery in existing EVs can be discharged is limited to extend service life. E.g. when a Volt shows the battery as fully discharged, it still has 20% of its capacity remaining.

Dual-carbon batteries are claimed to be able to be fully discharged without compromising service life.

Similarly, the top level of charge in an EV is limited to extend service life. Dual-carbon batteries promise to eliminate this limitation too.

In short, all of the above adds up to increased useable capacity with longer service life & improved safety.

Other claims:
● no rare earths
● no heavy metals
● fully recycleable
● can be manufactured using existing battery production equipment

International USB chargers

Credit: Mobile Fun

Charging your mobile device when visiting another country requires a power point adapter — one more thing to carry — actually it can be several things as more than one adapter may be required, depending on which/how many countries you are visiting. The device shown above covers it all in one device.

● dual USB outputs let you charge two devices at once
● transforms into adapters for the EU, US, Australian, New Zealand & UK sockets
● all-in-one — no small parts to get lost
● over-current/over-temperature/short-circuit protection
● input: 100-240V
● output: 5V, 1.3 Amp (single) & 0.650m Amp (dual)
● continue to use it after you get home

Problem is the USB output current: while it will charge a typical phone — two phones or a tablet will be much slower.

Australian retailer:

Not the same device, but apparently the same functionality &, most importantly, 2.1 Amp output, so it will charge your tablet too:

Comments on the article linked above are interesting, although keep in mind that:

Wireless charging of phones from across the room? The tech inches closer (video)

Wireless charging is available now, using the Qi standard. All you need is a Qi charging pad & a receiver for your phone. I have one in my Samsung Galaxy S4. Receivers for phones with non-removable batteries are incorporated into a case.

In my experience, the phone needs to be be positioned precisely to charge at the highest possible rate. Current drawn from the wall can vary between 4 & 7.5 Watts, depending on the position of the phone on the charging pad. I assume this is reflected in the time taken to charge, although I haven't timed it.

Which brings us to another possibility: do you want wireless charging, or would you prefer to be able to charge you phone in under a minute? It could be very useful at the airport, or if you forgot to plug it in overnight & you have to leave for work. Elon Musk has suggested charge times of 5 to 10 minutes for Tesla electric vehicles in the future.
