GIF optical illusion causes motion-induced blindness

"Look at the GIF above. Focus intently on the red dot in the middle and try not to move your eyes around too much. The yellow dots on the periphery should fade away and when you begin to shift your sight elsewhere, they have inexplicably returned to the moving orange square."

We've already seen a little of this in mobile devices with slide out keyboards.  Didn't really take on.  Do people actually want this?  It's easy to see flexibility to absorb impacts without damage being popular.
