BlackBerry says no to Pakistani backdoor demand

Governments around the world want unfettered access to your data. In Pakistan, the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority made such a demand on BlackBerry Enterprise Services, with a deadline of 30 November. To their credit, Blackberry said, “No,” & are closing up shop in Pakistan, despite an extension to 30 December.

It remains to be seen if any of these companies would have the same attachment to their convictions if the market had a bigger impact on their bottom line – say European Union or USA.
