Nokia takes Apple to task over nano-SIM proposal: "does not meet all of the pre-agreed requirements"

Apple has designed a nano-SIM which requires a tray because it doesn't add any cost to their phones. Why is this? iPhone's have a fixed battery. This allows them to shrink their phones a little. Other phone manufacturers take the size hit for the removable battery & put the SIM in the area opened up by the battery door. Apple doesn't have a battery door, so where to put the SIM? ... In a tray!

What does "retina display" actually mean?

U Grok It helps you find missing stuff using your phone & RFID

Something the author of the item linked below doesn't seem to understand is the term "grok".  It is a word coined by science fiction writer Robert A. Heinlein for the novel "Stranger in a Strange Land".  It means know or understand at a very deep level.  For a time it became part of technofile English.

Notice the word "technofile".  Today we might use the word "geek", but at the time "grok" was in use, "geek" still meant a 1930s US circus freak (usually mentally retarded, mentally ill or alcoholic) whose "act" commonly included eating a live chicken.

Caffeine – hero or villain?

Much has been written & spoken about caffeine, often contradictory. E.g.:

• promotes wakefulness – I think we can all agree on that one
• helps athletic performance
• hinders athletic performance
• helps concentration
• hinders concentration

Chris Forbes-Ewan discusses caffeine with references to research. Briefly:

• OK in moderation
• not for children or pregnant women
• don't mix with alcohol
• no causal link with osteoporosis or arthritis
• no causal link with high blood pressure in the long term
• does help concentration & alertness
• helps athletic performance, even at very low levels
• extremely high levels can reduce athletic performance
