Faraday Future big reveal at CES2016, today

Credit: Faraday Future/YouTube

Faraday Future is a very secretive organisation which has had something automotive in development for some time. Promises include, “fully electric vehicle in 2017”,1 & the video above hints at this too:

“What if a car could make the city turn its volume down?”

"And what if every drive was the opportunity to make a smart choice for the planet?”

Both point to an electric vehicle.

Some is a little more obscure:

“And what if the back seat was the new front seat?”

“And what if all those cars parked in driveways had more interesting lives?”

“And what if we created new spaces, not for sheet metal, but for people?”

“And what if you didn’t so much own a car, as use one whenever you needed?”

... but are consistent with a self driving car fleet, which users (passengers? drivers?), buy as a service when required.2

Self driving cars & electric cars have been developed/are in development,3 but we may just see them deployed a bit sooner than previously expected.

Whatever the truth, we can expect to know quite a bit more after the Faraday Future concept reveal from CES2016 today (04 January), at 8pm US Pacific Standard Time (PST) (8 hours behind Coordinated Universal Time, UTC, GMT, Zulu Time, whatever) i.e. just a little over 15 hours from the time of this post.

“Please stop using Flash” – Adobe

Credit: Adobe/Consumer Affairs

When Flash first appeared as an animation tool, from a company named Macromedia, most Internet users were on dial up. Verrrry slowwww Internet on desktop computers made doing all the processing at the users’ end most efficient.

Since that time, a few things have changed:

● Flash has had a programming language added, which ultimately made it a vector for malware

● most users’ Internet connections have become many times faster

● mobile, Internet-connected, devices (laptop, phone, pad), place a premium on battery life – so processing at the users’ end is now less attractive

So, the current owner, Adobe, is encouraging Web content providers to move on:

“Looking ahead, we encourage content creators to build with new Web standards & will continue to focus on providing the best tools & services for designers & developers to create amazing content for the Web.”1
