Another way to make this safe would have been to not use the most dangerous lithium ion battery chemistry, or maybe just repackage the cells they did use.

Octa: eight right?  Yes, that's what it stands for.  Eight cores?  Yes & no.  Two sets of 4 cores.  One set is high processing power & battery consumption, the other low power & battery.  Only one set of cores can be active at a time.  By fitting the appropriate set of cores to each task, net effect is high processing power when required with little negative effect on battery life.  Nice!
