The iPhone ringtone heard around the world (video)

It has been widely reported that a ringtone interrupted a New York Philharmonic Orchestra performance.  Unsurprisingly, much Internet vitriol has been cast at the "rude", "inconsiderate", "redneck" who failed to silence his phone before the performance.

A few corrections & a warning are in order:

1. The "perp" was a long time subscriber, who had had his Blackberry replaced with an iPhone by his company the day before.

2. The iPhone had been set to "silent" before entering the hall.

3. The "ringtone" was in fact an alarm generated by the built in Clock app.

4. The "perp" claims to have been unaware that the iPhone had an alarm & that it must have already been set before he received the phone from his company.

Warning: the iPhone silent switch (just above the volume buttons) will not prevent an alarm in the Clock app from sounding.

What will prevent an alarm from sounding:

5. Turn the phone off (not just sleep).

Or

6. Turn volume down to the lowest possible setting.

Or

7. Turn off each alarm individually in the built in Clock app.
