And there was the inventer of the, Radiendocrinator, a radium filled device, designed to be worn, "like any athletic strap". Not surprisingly, it's inventor, marketer, & most prominent user, later died of bladder cancer.

Lots of broken promises.  In the 50s the nuclear industry was promising, "electricity too cheap to meter".

All along, one of the promises has been, if not health benefits, at least safety.  Try telling that to the people at Three Mile Island, Windscale (aka Sellafield), Chernobyl & Fukushima.
