Smaller, safer, solid state battery = double range for EVs
Credit: SolidEnergy/Charged EVs
SolidEnergy is an MIT spin-off founded by Dr. Qichao Hu & colleagues. Their battery uses a thin metal anode & solid state electrolyte to halve cell size.
Economies of scale will be immediately available because the cells can be manufactured on existing LiIon production lines.
SolidEnergy predicts:
2016 - smaller battery for handhelds & wearables
2017 - 2 x range for EVs
