Time passes slowly in the hospital emergency department ...
Close followers of this august journal will recall that I had an operation for an inguinal hernia 6 days ago. Earlier, the wound was showing signs (swelling, accumulation of fluid) of what looked like infection to my untrained eye, so I visited the emergency department for guidance/treatment. Still there as I write this, in fact. It's called a waiting room, so that should be a clue. But, in the interests of full disclosure, perhaps it should be called the, "waiting ... waiting ... yawn ... still waiting ... yawn ... room ... yawn ..."
Historical note: We've all heard the stories about how old the magazines are in a doctor's waiting room, but check the date on the example in the photograph. (Click on it if it's not displaying well.)
Hard to capture with a phone camera, but it is possible to make out the hologram of an eagle on the cover. My understanding is that this was the 1st time a hologram was published on the cover of a magazine. Notice too, the excellent condition of the magazine.
Disappointingly, there was no sign of the fabled pre World War One magazines. :(
Update: Examination, including an ultrasound, showed that there is no infection. Liquid beneath the skin is the result of bleeding into the incision. Repair of the hernia remains intact. Blood accumulated internally will ultimately be absorbed by the body. So nothing to worry about. Go home, take it easy, heal. / ER emergency room /
