Apple Watch not protected by Activation Lock

Activation Lock makes a stolen Apple iOS device useless to a thief. An Apple Watch does not have the same level of protection. An optional password can protect the legitimate owner’s data, but a thief can erase the Watch & then activate it like a new device.
