Every new house built in Quebec to have mandatory 240V electric vehicle charging station

One of the advantages of an electric vehicle (EV) is the ubiquity of electricity for charging – most notably at home.

Standard household supply throughout North America is 110-120 Volts. While an EV can be charged at such voltages, it is very slow. With this in mind, the government of Quebec is planning to require installation of 240 Volt, 30 Amp EV chargers in all new homes & rental properties.

At first sight some may see this as a significant imposition. However, 240 Volt facilities are already a common domestic fitting, most notably for powering clothes driers.
