Can quantum measurements beat classical computers?

A complete quantum computer has not been built to this date. We have seen many of the parts of a quantum computer, which have been built & tested in isolation from one another. Unfortunately, in this guise they have been outperformed by standard computers.

Now, boson sampling technology may be able to tell us if quantum computers will be capable of the hoped for improvement in performance.
