Convert your car to a plug-in hybrid? All you need is $3,000 (video)

Not mentioned in the article or video: adding electric traction to the rear wheels of a front wheel drive car (Honda in the development vehicle) gives 4 wheel drive at no extra charge. Not what you would want for serious off-roading, but very useful for getting out of bogging situations or on icy roads.

Also very helpful in reduced-traction situations: independent motors on each wheel gives the effect of a limited-slip-differential with a 50% locking action.
