Tesla Model S achieves best crash safety rating of any car ever tested

Credit: crashnet1/ YouTube/ MotorAuthority

High level of safety is, in part, fundamental to the design:

• Battery mounted under the floor yields a low centre of gravity & a high score in the roll over test.
• Low centre of gravity also improves handling, making an accident less likely in the first place.
• Motor is small & mounted near the rear axle. This makes crumple zones bigger, particularly in the front.

Other safety elements are add ons, such as the multiple deep aluminum extrusions in the side rails to improve side impact protection.

Utilities creating their own solar & battery-powered demise

Utilities are responding to reducing demand by increasing charges to maintain profits. Combined with reducing solar electric generation costs, this will encourage consumers to install more solar capacity.

And of course, the good news is more solar, less carbon. :)

The linked article is about the situation in Australia, but something similar is happening in other places around the world.
