George Martin 1926 – 2016

Credit: uncut.co.uk

Many regarded him as the fifth Beatle, although he tired of being known as, “the Beatles producer” – & he achieved many things both before & after the Beatles, including more than 50 number one hit records.

Without George Martin, the world may never have come to know the Beatles. Their music would have been very different.

HoverDock for Apple Watch & iPhone

Credit: Gadget Flow

Neither of these docks actually hover, but below the aluminium ring, they are black & curved in such a way that, from most angles, they appear to hover, as in the image above. Also, because they do not actually hover, & are in fact rubberized below the aluminium ring, they will stay where you put them on your desk or nightstand, which may be for the best.

Both docks incorporate a winder in the aluminium part which can be used to adjust the length of your existing Apple charging cable.

Vanished! Surprising things missing from ancient art

Charcoal drawings in Chauvet Cave, over 30,000 years old

Look at the image above – many animals – horses, bison, rhinoceros, but typical of so much art, over thousands of years, in many ancient cultures – no plants.

Also largely missing from the art of ancient cultures is the colour blue. While paintings from Ancient Egypt are a famous exception, blue appears rarely in ancient art. Art, here, includes the written. E.g., “blue” is not mentioned once in the writings of Homer. No blue skies, nor seas. Seas, apparently are “wine-dark”!

Different aspects of these phenomena at the links below:

Ray Tomlinson, the inventor of email has died aged 74. The first email was sent between two networked computers, which were physically side-by-side in 1971.

He also chose the “@” symbol as a separator in an email address, after it had fallen into disuse.

Famously, after demonstrating his new creation, Ray Tomlinson told a colleague, "Don't tell anyone! This isn't what we're supposed to be working on."
