Spigen Slim Armor View Case for the Samsung Galaxy S4 hands-on (video)

Credit: Spigen

How to make the perfect case for the Samsung Galaxy S4?

Spigen's take is to start with their dual layer (TPU & polycarbonate) Slim Armor Case & add a hinged screen cover with a window to take advantage of the S4's S-View capability. Finally, they've added a clip to keep the screen cover closed.

Does it work? Some think so:

Tesla Model S achieves best crash safety rating of any car ever tested

Credit: crashnet1/ YouTube/ MotorAuthority

High level of safety is, in part, fundamental to the design:

• Battery mounted under the floor yields a low centre of gravity & a high score in the roll over test.
• Low centre of gravity also improves handling, making an accident less likely in the first place.
• Motor is small & mounted near the rear axle. This makes crumple zones bigger, particularly in the front.

Other safety elements are add ons, such as the multiple deep aluminum extrusions in the side rails to improve side impact protection.

Utilities creating their own solar & battery-powered demise

And of course, the good news is more solar, less carbon. :)

Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, promises deep dive into electric-car emissions

Credit: Green Car Reports

Opponents of electric vehicles often gleefully claim that electric vehicles (EVs) produce as much carbon dioxide as internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles because coal is burned to produce the electricity.

Such an "analysis" is flawed because, although it takes account of almost all of the the CO2 produced upstream of the EV (unless the source is hydro, or some other green source), it ignores the enormous amount of CO2 produced upstream of the ICE petrol tank. Issues involved have previously been discussed in these pages.

A further issue is "imbedded energy". I.e. the energy consumed in producing a vehicle. EV opponents have recently suggested that the embedded energy in an EV is greater than that in an ICE equivalent.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has recently tweeted that he will undertake an exhaustive investigation into relative amounts of imbedded energy in EV & ICE vehicles.

Via Motors latest to try electric vehicle-to-home backup power tech

Credit: CNN

Electric vehicle (EV) batteries store substantial amounts of energy. Typically, enough to supply electricity to power a house for a day or longer. Manufacturers have experimented with doing just this. Now Bob Lutz' Via Motors is looking at doing something similar with their range extended EV truck. Taking it one step further, they plan to use the truck's 125 kilowatt generator to power an entire street.

This is after transporting engineers & their tools to the site.
